EL Cordion Ultralight Closed Cell Foam Sleeping Pad

I've used this sleeping pad a few times now and I'm a big fan! I use it in conjunction with a blow up pad and it really helps me feel like my blow up pad is protected from getting unnecessarily punctured. It doesn't add much weight at all to my pack and I feel like the extra insulation has been helpful too.
It has also proven useful when I need to kneel or when I need to lay out my gear on the ground.

I finally got to take my first trip with the EL Cordion Ultralight Closed Cell Foam Sleeping Pad, and it absolutely delivered. I originally picked it up to protect my primary sleeping pad and boost the R-value enough to comfortably handle four-season conditions—and it turned out to be the perfect solution.

Not only did it add that extra layer of insulation I was looking for, but it also proved to be incredibly versatile. Around camp, I found myself using it as a sitting pad just as often as I used it for sleeping. Lightweight, durable, and super practical, it quickly became one of those pieces of gear I won’t leave behind.

This trip was also a first for my friend, and he got to see firsthand how well my setup performed. Between the EL Cordion, the Featherstone Granite 2P Backpacking Tent, and the Therm-a-Rest NeoLoft sleeping pad, he was seriously impressed. By the end of the trip, he was already talking about getting his own Featherstone kit.

Overall, the EL Cordion exceeded my expectations and fit perfectly into my setup. If you're looking for a simple, effective way to add warmth, protection, and versatility to your sleep system, this pad is a no-brainer.

I’m a cold sleeper so insulation rating was very important to me. This sleeping pad r value of 2.1 is great! I did my own test while tent camping in the backcountry. I sat on the pad on the ground with nothing on top. I did not feel any coldness from the ground. I was very comfortable. Then I sat on the ground next to the pad and couldn’t believe how well the pad works. I was cold sitting on the bare ground within 2 minutes. The size and foldability of this mat, made it easy to attache to the outside of my backpack for a 5 mile rugged climb to campsite. It’s versatile too. I used it as a sit pad while I cooked my meals and enjoyed the fire at night. It was very easy to slide it under my mattress where it became part of my sleep system. It’s very durable. After an 8 mile camping adventure, it still looks new.

A great pad that fits well into my lightweight gear so I can stack R-values or as a pad to toss down so I can lie down on rougher ground.

This was a last minute purchase to boost the warmth of our summer sleeping pads in case temps were lower than expected. Me and my girlfriend we VERY happy to have these for more than that. They were amazing bunched up for our butt breaks while traversing a gorge in the Appalachian area. Even better when we needed a break from being vertical, and wanted to take a siesta. These things well surpassed their price for comfort. Im a big fan of FS outdoors products!

These things are great! I last minute ordered one for me and my gf for added insulation under our summer sleeping pads. These are great sit pads bunched up, or if you need a break from being vertical for a bit. These were a life saver for our butt breaks on a 2 day trip over the 4th of July week end to a wilderness area.

I have used this exact pad on at least two extended backpack hiking trips (one in California and one in Canada) and are very happy with it. In fact, because I lost the pad on the way back from the last trip, this is my second order. It is light weight, easy to tuck outside of the backpack, and super quick to use. Comparing to an air mattress, it is much sturdier, easier to use and make little noise at night, which is rather important if you ever share a tent with someone else. It is not as insulated as a air mattress, so be sure to bring a warm sleep bag for cold weather camping. Otherwise it works perfectly in warmer seasons.

The mat I received was a tad smaller than what is advertised, but still seems like an ok mat for the money. I get that it's foam and measurements can be off, but I wanted to share what mine actually is versus listed. The weight was 420g w/o straps (30 grams shy of the advertised 450g), even with the strap included it was only 434g. It's listed as 5.5" x 5.5" x 22" folded, so just over a 1/4" shy in both directions, but exactly 22" in length. Measuring the peak-to-peak width of the mat was .78" versus the .9" advertised, which was the selling point for me. The other mats are listed as about.75", so a slightly thicker mat at .9" was appealing. Folding in half, to see if two doubled up would make a difference, didn't seem to add that much more comfort. I placed a sharpie marker under the mat and laid it on a hard wood floor to simulate a stick or root. Other than a slight raise in the pad, it wasn't uncomfortable to lay upon. Overall, I got a slightly larger than average mat for about $15 USD less than comparable mats.

Used this pad in addition to a lightweight air mattress. The pad kept the cold at bay and added much needed warmth and comfort. Super lightweight and easy to add to my bike as I traveled the Katy Trail. This pad will be part of my standard bike camping equipment.

I bought this after reading the other reviews that said it was comparable to ThermaRest. After receiving it and putting it up against my ThermaRest res,t it is wider, however the foam is very thin, almost nothing to it, it’s like if you took a therma rest and then stretched it like taffy to make it bigger.I’m returning this and bought another off brand that after in person comparison is actually very similar to my thermarest.

I used the original Thermarest z-lite for years of backpacking and it worked great to insulate against the cold wet ground. I like them, but have been a bit confused how they got to be so pricey. This sleeping pad is very similar, with foam that feels slightly more dense and springy than my z-lite, and with a bit more width (2 inches)... and almost $20 lower price vs the thermarest.If you want a reliable pad that is light and offers decent insulation, this is worth a look.

I’m just not sure about these types of pads in general, but I wanted to try one out. I think that they are a good addition to any camp kit.What you should know:- Comfort is nice, but the primary purpose of a sleeping pad is to keep you off of the “heat-sucking” ground. This pad will do that, to an apparent rating of a 2.1 R-value. Theoretically, flipping the pad silver-side-up will give you a little more heat reflection.- When you look at the “hills-and-valleys/both-sides together” profile of the pad, it seems to be close to an inch total of padding (..minus "half of the padding removed" so 1/2 in. effective?)…which isn’t great, but nod bad either. Regardless, this pad is not as comfortable as an inflatable pad, but it is more comfortable than lying on the ground.- It’s incomparably bulkier that the (non-self-inflating/interior-foam) inflatable pads, which generally roll into a 3x10 in. package, but it is comparable to the typical foam bedrolls. This to me is the greatest downside of these. It is waterproof though, so you can strap it to the outside/bottom of your pack, but it’s definitely not going in the pack.- It couldn’t be easier to setup…you just remove the (included) elastic straps and fold it out. No inflating/(mid-night)re-inflating /deflating.- It’s puncture/deflation proof.- It’s multipurpose. It can be used as a sitting pad or a wind block (e.g. when trying to start a fire).- It can be used in conjunction with inflatable pads for colder temperatures.- It weighs in at 0.49 Kg/1 lb. So equal weight to (most) inflatable sleeping pads.- I’m 6’1”, 270lbs, with broad shoulders…it’s plenty long and wide enough for me.Bottom Line:Inflatable pads are good and more portable, but they also take more work and have more (deflation) risk. And this pad can be used in conjunction with an inflatable one. It’s a good pad.

A great accordion style sleeping pad for 2/3rds of the price of the other pads out there! And it’s longer and a bit wider than those pads too can’t recommend it enough.

Bought for 5 year old. Said foam felt comfy and good on his back. Would give it a 10\10
