Moondance Top Quilt

How to use your Pad Straps

IDFL Shake Test

Customers praised this ultralight quilt for exceptional warmth, quality construction, and value. Many noted "soft and fluffy" 850-fill down, excellent loft, and versatility as blanket or sleeping bag. Most found it "very warm" even below rated temps. Some concerns about regular size being snug and uneven fill distribution, though praised spacious long/wide option.

Lightest Ever & Softest Sleeping Bag/Quilt!

This really is the lightest sleeping bag/quilt for camping outdoors. It is incredibly silky soft too! The bag is narrow & average size or larger people would need to just use it as a quilt or walk wrap around blanket. It's great that it easily fits back into the carrying storage bag. The strap down ties are a nice bonus. Nice high quality sleeping bag.

The king of sleeping outside- Great for Hot or Cold weather

This is the softest sleeping bag I have ever had, it’s a 5 star experience compared to most everything I’ve tried.I love the design, in that it has a half zipper and then snap closures paired with drawstring closures , so you can use it for any weather type, including humid climates, which is nice..it’s so lightweight weighing in at only a pound and 7 ounces, great for hiking and camping..I was even able to get it back into the carry bag, it fits ,They also supply you with straps to connect it to a sleeping mattress for the bougie glamping nights , which is what I live for..the bottom is a drawstring enclosure or if you sleep hot , you can leave it open and let your feet hang out.So you don’t wake up sweaty and gross..You can unzip and unsnap everything and it becomes a soft down quilt that you could use as a top sheet or to bring with you in the morning for coffee around the campfire 🔥This is easily my new favorite sleeping bag, because it’s so soft and versatile and featherweight!

Filling is very unevenly distributed

First off this is extremely light weight, and although it was meant to be versatile by having opening straps, it seems a little awkward to sleep with. It would be much better used as a over coat when it's cold, or for an quilt to lay on top of. It comes with straps so you can attach it to a small bed when fully opened. I would use it to lay on top of to block any cold air from coming up towards my back while sleeping, and have an alternative option for on top. The filling also seems very unevenly distributed, but haven't had it long enough to see if that affects the quality. Time will tell. Hope that helps.

Great budget option

As a hammock hanger I have been using a mummy bag as my topquilt. Not the best choice but it has worked. Always wanted a true down topquilt but they are generally very expensive. So, what is a topquilt you might ask? Well it is sort of a sleeping bag with the backside left out. The reason for this is the fact that insulation requires little pockets of air in order to retain heat and when sleeping in a sleeping bag the underside is crushed eliminating those small pockets of air. A topquilt is lighter because of the lack of that backside. Hikers need to eliminate weight and this item is lighter than a full sleeping bag. That is just the basics of it.Top quality topquilts are made of the same materials as this is. The exterior is a very soft and comfortable material and the filling is 850 down. The outer material is DWR treated as is the down. DWR is a treatment that resists water keeping this quilt drier than one without the treatment. The baffles are true baffles and not just sewn through the two layers of material that tend to allow air to seep it way through. This can also be used anywhere a sleeping bag can be used and includes strapping that lets you secure it to a sleeping pad. Sliding off of sleeping pads is the norm and these straps help in keeping the sleeper in place and comfortable.Upon inspetion of the topquilt I found that the sewing is absolutely perfect with not a single issue. The design is very well thought out and allows this to be used as a topquilt as well as a banket. The footbox of the quilt is adjustable allowing you to vent and control temperatures within. The zipper is YKK and they are top of the line. It looks as if not costs were spared in the production of this topquilt. The best part is that it will stand up to any of the expensive custom quilts. Now the custom quilts can be ordered in almost any colour or configuration that you want, hence, the very high price. (Twice what this one costs and many times more.) Yes, the customs are generally made in the USA and this is from China. But when you want, or need, a topquilt but just cannot come up with the cash this is the best option that I know of. It really works every bit as good as the customs. Colour choice is limited. In the past they have offered only black outer with orange inner. This one is new with blue outer and yellow inner. (Personally, I sort of like the old black/orange but this new blue/yellow is quite nice.)Includes the quilt and a nice stuff sack. Also includes pad straps in a small stuff sack. Also included are a few flyers with information on the topquilt. I am so very pleased with this one. Unfortunately, it arrived here in Southern California on the hotest day of the year. So, how it performs in extreme cold is untested. But, I know these things and can tell you with certainty that it is going to be VERY WARM!!

This quilt exceeded my expectations

When I purchased this quilt I did not expect much out of it considering it is much more reasonably priced that other higher end ultralight quilts. When I got it I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. The 25 degree rating is legitimate. Not only is the quilt warm, I is very smooth and soft. The pad straps included work very good and kept me from falling off the pad and keep the pad on me I would definitely recommend it and might even buy another one

I got my Moondance 25 years ago when they were sold by Optcs Planet. Wonderful quality,, so good I bought my son one as a gift. There’s not anything like it in the outdoor gear world, 950 FO down at a great price. Thanks to TouTuber Steven
Smith for a great review that prompted my purchase.

Long/Wide

An outstanding product, I love the zippered toe box’s multiple pad straps, and it seems well filled, very cozy! As a big guy over 6’, I had concerns it wouldn’t be big enough, but the Lone Wide more than fits me.

I have not used the quilt yet, but I will update my review if I see any major flaws. I can comment on the sizing and the fit and finish thoughI ordered the regular/regular size. I'm 5' 10", 210 lb: not the tallest, but I have somewhat good shoulders. The quilt fits me just fine. I have plenty of room when it's wide open, but it's snug like a mummy bag when all strapped up.It's my first quilt, so I cannot compare to other options. The fabric looks durable and is very soft to the touch. It's about 50" wide when it's lofty, so quite a bit less than what is advertised. But when flattened, it's around 54". Same situation for the length. It weights 724g and the stuff sack with the straps weights 60 g, for a total au 784 g, which is more than the 651 advertised. Not a big deal for me and some variability is expected. The price was great! I Paid 200$ CAD, but looks like it went up quite a bit (260$ CAD), which makes it less of a good deal now. At that price, I would pay a little more for a name brand, but if you can get it for 200$ or less, it's a steal!

Hi this is a good value quilt with high end features but it does not pack down as much as others. It just depends how important packability is to your equipment

I am impressed by the quality! The loft is truly impressive as is the low weight. I just improved my backpacking sleeping system tenfold! I love the Featherstone quality.Shipping was quick and efficient - I was charged duty and brokerage fees separately (for the first-time when ordering on Amazon Prime!).

I’ve just returned from a backpacking holiday using the Moondance 25 and am very happy with it. The temperature went down to 0c and I woke up to frost on the tent, but with thermals, extra layers and two pairs of socks on I was comfortable in the quilt. The quilt is not really meant to go this low (despite the temperature rating) but shows that you can survive the odd cold night with it.The following two nights when the temperature rose to 5-6c I was very cozy in just thermals and a pair of sleeping socks (which I recommend wearing to keep both the quilt and your sleeping mat clean).Featherstone is a great little company for lightweight camping gear and this is definitely the best way to buy from the USA.

So happy with the quilt after two years of camping has been amazing! The extra length keeps me warm as can hide my head under when needed.Like not feeling trapped yet still been able to stay warm… have only used thru summer not too cool in evenings so can’t say how cooler would be. I haven’t found it difficult to stay wrapped as wasn’t sure with quilt being different than typical sleeping bags used. I like it better! Way lighter. The down is so soft & fluffy !! Hang it up on coat hanger in closet when not in use after drying it for couple days when have gone camping. No odour yet and haven’t washed it. Found the coating to keep me dry as my lil tent can get some condensation going as single wall thicker tree spots can do thou I’ve stayed warm, dry and air drys when packed up or never felt uncomfortable when unpacked use again. Happy camper with first quilt ! Totally recommend Featherlight!!! Way less than other brands to try before even know if gonna like how quilts are. And the best quality I’ve had before for fraction of price. I did spend more on insulated sleeping pad. Thou all together I’ve slept the best I ever had camping—I’m in my 40s. Also even if include cost of tent site overall can have multiple camping trips for cost of weekend hotel so that’s how I look at camping gear. If I can get 4-5 solid seasons from gear than worth it for the experiences get to enjoy in nature with good company:)

Very simple and minimalist with closures up the side and just a partial zipper. Featherstone has designed this for ultralight through-hikers and it shows: simple, light, and packs down well.No extras, just a sleeping solution for warmer climates.Video shows overview of the bag.
